Blanche Lazzell at PAAM, and Bill’s Companion Workshops

·

Provincetown’s white-line tradition took center stage at PAAM in 2025, with the major traveling exhibition Blanche Lazzell: Becoming an American Modernist on view August 29, 2025 through January 4, 2026. Organized by the Art Museum of West Virginia University and supported by Art Bridges, the show surveyed the full career of the artist most responsible for developing the white-line color woodblock technique that would come to define Provincetown printmaking.

Exhibition: Blanche Lazzell: Becoming an American Modernist, Aug 29, 2025–Jan 4, 2026, PAAM
Companion show: White-Line Woodblock Prints from the Collection, curated by Christine McCarthy, Sept 12–Nov 2, 2025, PAAM
Bill’s workshops: The White-Line Woodblock Print with William Evaul, Oct 14–15 and Nov 17–18, 2025, PAAM

Bill had work in the companion show, placing his prints in direct conversation with Lazzell’s. He also led an official companion program: a two-day workshop pairing a tour and gallery discussion of the Lazzell exhibition with hands-on instruction in the white-line technique she helped originate: carving, inking, and hand-painting a print from a single woodblock matrix.

The Provincetown Independent covered a November session of the workshop, following participants from first sketch through finished print.
